Depression can offer an opportunity to reexamine ways of relating and living, to find sources of hope and meaning within and beyond the self. When we direct the mind towards a specific focus or aim, we express intention. We might strive for harmony and balance in daily life. Or reaffirm a neglected relationship. Intention is a form of imagining what is potential. Cultivating clear and positive intention, and finding ways to put intentions into practice, through active contemplation or focused meditation, is one way to overcome depressive suffering and begin a healing process.
